Should MV welcome Beck?
01 September 2009 | By jackie-kgmi in UncategorizedGlenn Beck is getting a key to the city of Mount Vernon on September 26th, 2009. Beck spent much of his childhood in Mount Vernon and teen years in the Bellingham area.
Mayor Bud Norris announced Tuesday that Sept 26th will be proclaimed “Glenn Beck Day.”
Beck has been under fire recently (that’s putting it mildly) for comments he made during his TV show on FOX. He called President Obama a racist.
Norris says he’s a local boy who’s gone on to see incredible success, ratings, fortune and celebrity. No matter his politics or your stance, Norris says, Beck deserves recognition.
Those who attend Beck’s presentation at McIntyre Hall will likely hear tidbits about growing up in Skagit County and helping his dad at City Bakery.
KGMI has heard its share of supportive and critical comments about Beck’s radio program that now airs weekdays from noon to 2pm. His ratings of both is radio and TV shows are high—and growing. This despite numerous businesses pulling their advertising dollars from his show.
What’s appropriate? Should we welcome home a controversial talk show host with open arms? Is he saying this stuff just for ratings? I work with a few people who know Glenn Beck personally and have incredible things to say about him. Yet I have to admit there are times I find his positions cringe-worthy.

This is very simple, you have to pay $25.00 to go to the event,no one who goes is asking for a stimulus check to purchase tickets with……..

No, this is the nut roll that started all the brew ha ha about the constitution and we the people and how government is taking over and we are losing our rights. listen to him carefully, he used to brag about being in rcovery and how he was grateful now all he does is carry on about losing our rights, the whole station of Fox is the same sing song about being a Republican and a good moral person, what a load and don’t think for a minute they are not interested in the little people what a bunch of hooey. Glen Beck is Gurbels sp/ or a wanna-be Rush. they all sing out of the same song book

Glen Beck COULD be a real voice for the people … unfortunately he is on the wrong side….. his insane ranting and raving about our current president borders treason not reason. Please Glen get real and listen to yourself… the background noise you hear is race and hate. If you love your country then help it’s citizens that wont be receiving keys to their birth cities because you get rich and famous by tearing down your country and it’s leaders and help them get some decent health care….. they are to busy working to pay the corps that put up the money for you and the other talking heads to confuse and distort the real issues. I don’t dislike you Glen .. you seem to be a decent person and, very sold on your agenda …. you are just on the wrong side of this country at the moment. It’s not all perfect Glen … the world that is but, it can be better if we pull together and stop pulling apart. I wonder Glen if President Obama said tommorow he does not want health care would you really get of his case ???
